BIOS Update USB Stick

Prerequisites

  • FAT formated USB-Stick with at least > 32 MiB storage
  • Latest H2OFFT™ (Firmware Flash Tool)
Due to licensing restrictions the H2OFFT is only available on request.

Copy Insyde Firmware Flash Tool to USB-Stick

The BIOS-Update-USB Stick is now ready for updating and flashing BIOS images.
For further Information please see the following section.

Update BIOS

Prerequisites

  • Prepared USB Stick with BIOS Update Tool
  • BIOS File TQMxE38M_5.4.48.0028.16.bin
  • Copy BIOS File to USB Stick

Perform BIOS Update

Attention: keyboard layout is US by default in the BIOS setup!
  1. Insert BIOS-Update-USB Stick stick to a Starterkit USB port
  2. Power the starter kit and enter the BIOS by repeatedly pressing ESC
  3. Navigate to the tab “Boot” and set the boot type to “Dual Boot Type”
  4. Enable TXE Prepare for Update option in the BIOS Menu (Setup Utility > Advanced > Security Configuration > TXE Configuration > Enabled)
  5. <F10> to save the settings and reboot the system
  6. After reboot navigate into the EFI Shell (Boot Manager > Internal EFI Shell)
  7. After starting the EFI Shell switch path to the USB stick by typing fs0:. This depends on the amount of connected mass storage devices. With command ls you can check the content of the path.
  8. Launch BIOS update
H2OFFT_Sx64.efi TQMxE38M_5.4.48.0028.16.bin –ALL –RA

⇒ BIOS will reboot into EFI shell after the update has finished succesfully

Work with external BIOS

The BIOS source can be selected on the (TQMxE38M) SPI flash via connector X23/BIOS_DIS1# on MB-COME10-1.

Open BIOS will load from internal SPI Flash
Close BIOS will load from external SPI Flash

Flash BIOS to Carrier SPI Flash Chip

Flashing the Carrier SPI Chip is only possible with a working module.

How to:

  1. Connect USB key with desired BIOS file and Insyde Update Tool „H2OFFT-Sx64“
  2. Open the Boot Jumper X23/BIOS_DIS1# (on Carrier)
  3. Apply the supply voltage of 12 V; The sytem boot in the EFI Shell
  4. Enable “TXE Prepare for Update” in the BIOS and press F10 to save the configuration an reset the module
  1. Navigate into the EFI-Shell
  2. In the EFI Shell, switch path to the USB key
  3. Close the Boot Jumper X23/BIOS_DIS1# (on Carrier)
  4. Execute BIOS Update with the following commands:
Shell> fs0: <Enter>
fs0:> H2OFFT_Sx64.efi TQMxE38M_5.4.48.0028.16.bin –ALL –RA -N
  1. Open the Boot Jumper X23/BIOS_DIS1# (on Carrier) after a successful BIOS Update
  2. Turn off the supply voltage
  3. Finish. Now you can update modules with the Carrier SPI Flash Chip

BIOS Recovery through the Carrier SPI Flash Chip

To recover the onboard BIOS with the Carrier SPI Flash Chip, a preflashed BIOS SPI Chip is required.

How To:

  1. Connect USB key with desired BIOS file and Insyde Update Tool „H2OFFT-Sx64“
  2. Close the Boot Jumper X23/BIOS_DIS1# (on Carrier)
  3. Apply the supply voltage of 12 V; The sytem boot in the EFI Shell
  4. Enable “TXE Prepare for Update” in the BIOS and press F10 to save the configuration an reset the module
  1. Navigate into the EFI-Shell
  2. In the EFI Shell, switch path to the USB key
  3. Open the Boot Jumper X23/BIOS_DIS1# (on Carrier)
  4. Execute BIOS Update with the following commands:
Shell> fs0: <Enter>
fs0:\> H2OFFT_Sx64.efi TQMxE38M_5.4.48.0028.16 –ALL –RA -N
  1. After successful BIOS Update reset the Module
  2. Finished. You have successfully recovered the onboard BIOS
